{"id":3598,"date":"2025-05-27T22:13:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T02:13:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=3598"},"modified":"2025-07-08T21:05:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T01:05:41","slug":"harder-than-it-needed-to-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=3598","title":{"rendered":"Harder Than It Needed To Be"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think I&#8217;m not alone in disliking Google&#8217;s AI-generated results.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/tedium.co\/2024\/05\/17\/google-web-search-make-default\/\">tedium.co<\/a> explains, it&#8217;s technically possible to remove the AI cruft just by adding a URL parameter to your search.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not perfect.\u00a0 As that page points out you&#8217;re getting a 2001 presentation of today&#8217;s SEO-addled search results, so the results aren&#8217;t the breath of fresh air you might be hoping for.\u00a0 But they don&#8217;t have the AI summaries, and that&#8217;s a plus.<\/p>\n<p>Sites like\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/udm14.com\/\">udm14.com<\/a> make a big show of adding the parameter and removing the AI stuff for you, but I don&#8217;t typically start at the front door of search engines.\u00a0 I use address-bar searching like a civilized person.<\/p>\n<p>Oddly, since they&#8217;re the FLOSS favorite, but maybe not-so-oddly since they&#8217;re still beholden to corporate interests, Firefox makes it easy to add commercial providers but doesn&#8217;t make it easy to add or edit custom providers.\u00a0 Finding out how took me much longer than I&#8217;m happy about.
