{"id":3489,"date":"2024-10-10T21:28:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-11T01:28:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=3489"},"modified":"2024-10-10T21:29:30","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T01:29:30","slug":"aurora-borealis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=3489","title":{"rendered":"Aurora Borealis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Megh and I enjoyed a collective life goal tonight: seeing the Aurora Borealis with our own eyes.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve wanted to see this for nearly my entire life, ever since I saw the movie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0085991\/\">Antarctica<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The sun is at a peak of the current <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Solar_cycle_25\">solar cycle<\/a>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/phenomena\/coronal-mass-ejections\">CME<\/a> was detected the other day, and it&#8217;s arrival tonight was predicted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/\">Space Weather Prediction Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Megh, Beta, and I found a dark spot near <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/EEcvhNxjzp8aSrE49\">Rockport<\/a>, arrived as dusk approached, and waited for the fireworks. Nature did not disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>It started before the sky was completely dark, and initially appeared to be a whitish haze across the northern part of the sky.
