{"id":2842,"date":"2021-09-19T14:23:38","date_gmt":"2021-09-19T18:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=2842"},"modified":"2021-09-19T21:29:04","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T01:29:04","slug":"dashcam-to-the-rescue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=2842","title":{"rendered":"Dashcam to the Rescue!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This shall come as no surprise to anyone that lives in or near Boston: my car got hit by another car while driving in downtown Boston.\u00a0 This is an every day occurrence, and is why many people avoid driving downtown.<\/p>\n<p>The downside:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>my car got hit<\/li>\n<li>it must be fixed<\/li>\n<li>we didn&#8217;t make the appointment that I was picking up Alpha child for<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The upside:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>nobody was hurt (in either car)<\/li>\n<li>the damage is relatively minor<\/li>\n<li>it wasn&#8217;t my fault<\/li>\n<li>I have a dashcam \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6WbBwjja89o?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2843\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/youtube-closed-captioning-symbol.png\" alt=\"youtube's closed-captioning symbol\" width=\"34\" height=\"26\" \/> Turn on the closed captioning for additional viewing fun!<\/p>\n<p>Note several so-very-Boston things that occur in this video:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a car crash in perfect driving conditions (shouldn&#8217;t happen)<\/li>\n<li>the two guys on the sidewalk that briefly glance in our direction, then keep going (principal of don&#8217;t-get-involved)<\/li>\n<li>the woman who takes advantage of the break in traffic to jaywalk (no fucks left to give)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sadly, the other driver was scurrilous and claimed that I had swerved from the left lane into the right before stopping suddenly.\u00a0 (That would also be a very Boston thing to do, if it had happened.)\u00a0 Our insurance companies found in my favor after reviewing the dashcam footage, and my car&#8217;s damage is fully paid for &#8211; nothing out of pocket, no deductible.<\/p>\n<p>I will not drive without a dashcam ever again.\u00a0 I wish I could provide a review of my particular unit but, sadly, it&#8217;s not made anymore &#8211; a review would be pointless.<\/p>\n<p>I do recommend that anyone and everyone get a dashcam, though.\u00a0 Besides proving the details of driving incidents, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=2624\">you can accidentally capture some really cool stuff<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you like watching dashcam footage, may I recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/dashcamgifs\/\">dashcamgifs on reddit<\/a>?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This shall come as no surprise to anyone that lives in or near Boston: my car got hit by another car while driving in downtown Boston.\u00a0 This is an every day occurrence, and is why many people avoid driving downtown.
