{"id":2411,"date":"2019-12-15T18:54:24","date_gmt":"2019-12-15T23:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=2411"},"modified":"2020-06-24T20:08:25","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T00:08:25","slug":"anchors-aweigh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=2411","title":{"rendered":"Anchors Aweigh!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Living where we do, with a high water table, houses are obligated to have a large hole in the floor of the basement called a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sump\">sump<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0 For those lucky enough to not know, a sump&#8217;s job is to collect groundwater before it seeps up through the floor of the basement.\u00a0 You then evacuate the water with a pump, colloquially (and quite logically) known as a &#8220;sump pump&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A sump pump is a replaceable part.\u00a0 The typical lifetime is supposed to be around ten years, give or take.<\/p>\n<p>We last replaced our pump in 2014.\u00a0 I purchased a replacement unit from &#8220;Watchdog&#8221; that proclaimed it&#8217;s longevity, speed, and reliability.\u00a0 This is that same unit, a mere five years later:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2412\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2412\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2412\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/20191215-Sump.png\" alt=\"decrapitated watchdog sump pump\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2412\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Notice the hole in the side of the housing.
