{"id":1055,"date":"2015-10-07T22:00:11","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T02:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=1055"},"modified":"2018-03-25T18:02:51","modified_gmt":"2018-03-25T22:02:51","slug":"american-chop-suey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.jonesling.us\/?p=1055","title":{"rendered":"American Chop Suey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>American Chop Suey is Meghan&#8217;s comfort food.\u00a0 It&#8217;s quick to cook so I can generally make it on short notice, when I know she&#8217;s had a really bad day.<\/p>\n<p>The instructions below are meant for multi-tasking and making everything come together at the right time &#8212; an expression of an unplanned dinner made on short notice.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h1>Ingredients<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>1 pound of small-shape pasta (elbows, mini-shells, or rotini are all good)<\/li>\n<li>1 pound ground beef<\/li>\n<li>1 medium onion, diced<\/li>\n<li>1 large green bell pepper, diced<\/li>\n<li>2-5 cloves of garlic<\/li>\n<li>1 jar spaghetti sauce, 15 oz or so, depends on how saucy you like it<\/li>\n<li>1 or 2 cups shredded mozzarella<\/li>\n<li>olive oil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You&#8217;ll also need a large skillet and a 9&#215;13 glass pan to go in the oven.<\/p>\n<h1>Steps<\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 350\u00b0<\/li>\n<li>Put on a pot of water to boil, and put on a large skillet on the stove with medium-low heat<\/li>\n<li>Dice onion and pepper<\/li>\n<li>When the water is very close to boiling, turn up the skillet to medium heat, add some oil, and throw in the onions and peppers<\/li>\n<li>When the water boils, add the hamburger to the skillet and brown it with the onions and peppers<\/li>\n<li>Put the pasta in the water and cook to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Al_dente\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">al dente<\/a>; strain.\u00a0 If the meat isn&#8217;t done yet, toss with a little oil to keep it from sticking.<\/li>\n<li>When the meat is brown, drain off the fat and mix in the jar of sauce.\u00a0 Put back on medium heat until the sauce starts to bubble.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the cooked pasta into the 9&#215;13 pan, and stir in the meat sauce.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle (or if you&#8217;re like me, shovel) the cheese on top, cover with foil, and cook at 350\u00b0 for 20 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Chop Suey is Meghan&#8217;s comfort food.\u00a0 It&#8217;s quick to cook so I can generally make it on short notice, when I know she&#8217;s had a really bad day.
